Packaging cosmetics is changing from an art to a science. Not only does it have to be appealing, practical and stylish, but it also has to keep the product in excellent condition from the time it is made to the day it is finally thrown away. This can be often measured in years and is controlled, almost exclusively, by the permeability of the container and the product.
Versaperm's newest permeability measurement equipment allows you to test and develop the container's design, manufacture and the materials it is made from. This can make a dramatic difference as they control vapour permeability, which governs the way aromatic volatiles and moisturisers are retained. The permeability also regulates the way moisture and Oxygen are kept out and regulates the cosmetic's delicate unsaturated lipid bonds, which easily turn rancid creating unpleasant smells.
The permeability for all of these can typically be measured to PPM (Parts Per Million) accuracy using the equipment's mass spectrometer option, (Parts Per Billion for some gases and materials).
Vapour permeability helps to prevent the growth of the micro-organisms that degrade the product and reduce quality. With Versaperm's equipment you can measure the permeability of both the material the casing is made from and the finished container itself - which can easily become over four times less effective simply due to the manufacturing process.
}
The meter can be used on a most materials and containers including bottles, tubs, tubes, sachets, foils and laminates. It is ideal for use in both product development and quality control enmvironments. Versaperm also offers a consultancy service and a permeability laboratory service for companies that only need to test samples on an irregular basis.
